The house was built exclusively by German companies and opened last month in Beckum, Westphalia, as the first of its kind in the whole of Germany.
It is foreseeable that the construction industry in Germany will change in the coming years. And with it, the way we imagine our dream homes. Last month, Beckum witnessed the inauguration of a residential building that will bring about this change.
At least that’s what the developers and builders of the Hous3Druck pilot project hope. And to be honest, it seems pretty plausible. With funding of almost 200,000 euros from the North Rhine-Westphalian state government, they completed the model house in less than a year.
The construction process went as follows: A 3D printer was used to apply centimeter-thick layers of mortar and concrete specially developed for this construction technique from a nozzle. This saved time and avoided the problem of a long-term shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry. And how? Quite simply, it is no longer necessary to lay brick on brick. In addition, curves and other complex shapes are easier to implement.
The result is a two-storey residential building with around 160 square meters of living space, which is intended to serve as a model. NRW managers and builders at Hous3Druck UG expect more to be built soon. The USA and Belgium are examples of this.
