MyHeritage, a company specializing in genealogy, launched an app last week that will revolutionize photography and even our memories. It is called Deep Nostalgia and enables old photos to be brought to life with the help of artificial intelligence.
The working principle is simple. Take any photo (of your parents, your grandparents or even a distant relative). After registering on the MyHeritage website, upload it to the Deep Nostalgia tool and… off you go! In just a few seconds, the photo comes to life.
Here is an example:
As you can see, the people in the picture start to move after editing, changing their facial expressions… Just like in a Harry Potter movie! Deep Fake technology, which we already see used in viral videos and even advertising, is used for this.
In fact, the launch was so successful that it became one of the most downloaded apps in the Apple Store just a few days after its launch. And as you would expect on the internet, it has breathed new life into numerous classic memes.
MyHeritage has published an article explaining how this effect is achieved. Very suitable for those who want to research a little more about this technology and other related technologies.
