Free wine? Yes, please!
Caldari di Ortona is the name of this seeming paradise on earth. It is located in the Abruzzo region of Italy and opened its own wine fountain a few years ago, which has since become incredibly popular. People from all over the world have come here over the years to drink a good glass of red wine from this fantastic fountain.
It all started when the Dora Sarchese winery in Abruzzo decided to build the very first wine fountain in Italy. Abruzzo is an incredible part of Italy, located on the east coast. Its stunning mountains and sandy beaches attracted many tourists even before the pandemic and before the wine fountain was installed.
It may not be the first wine fountain in the world, but it is the first to serve wine around the clock. So you can even stop by at 3 a.m. for a glass. And even better: a glass of wine here costs nothing during the week!
At the weekend, however, you have to make a reservation – but it’s totally worth it! The winery has a beautiful garden with comfortable chairs and tables and the most beautiful natural surroundings you could wish for.
After all, the wine fountain is located within the actual winery and is on the route of a popular pilgrimage. It leads from Rome to a church in Ortona, where the bones of the apostle Thomas are said to have been buried. The pilgrimage usually takes around 16 days, so the wine fountain near the final destination must be a welcome sight.
You can find this hidden gem at the Dora Sarchese winery, 52 Strada Statale 538, Villa Caldari. You can also read about the types of wine produced at the winery on the website.
