The next movie night is coming up and you don’t know what you want to watch yet? How about a German movie? We’ve already presented you with a list of great Spanish and Italian films and now it’s time for Germany. Because here, too, there are some that are really worth seeing. The following five are just a few examples:
1. ich bin dein Mensch
Where: ARD Mediathek
Oscar-nominated, and rightly so! This futuristic science fiction movie is about an experiment. What happens when you meet the person who fulfills all your wishes? And does it make a difference if it’s actually a perfectly programmed robot? Great movie that makes you think.
2. soul kitchen
Where: Sooner, Mubi, Joyn Plus
A comedy like no other. Soul Kitchen has a lot of charm and almost seems like an improvised movie project by a shady group of friends. Restaurant owner Zinos is trying to launch his restaurant “Soul Kitchen”, and all kinds of complications get in his way. His criminal brother Illias, played by Moritz Bleibtreu, only seems to make the situation worse. A real treat.
3. lola runs
Where: Sky, EntertainTV
The popular action thriller is about decisions – and the impact they have on our lives. The couple Manni and Lola face a challenge: to save Manni’s life, they have to raise 100,000 euros in 20 minutes. And every decision they make leads to a different ending. A must-see classic.
4. 25 km/h
Where: Joyn Plus, Amazon Video, Sky Store, Apple TV
The road movie comedy with Lars Eidinger and Bjarne Mädel is a rollercoaster of emotions. Brothers Georg and Christian meet again after 30 years of radio silence. After initial differences, they decide to go on a moped tour through Germany – a plan they had made when they were 15. A funny comedy with strong characters.
5 Toni Erdmann
Where: Alleskino, Videobuster, Rakuten TV
A family drama about an unusual father-daughter relationship. Winfried pays a surprise visit to his successful daughter in Bucharest. But instead of adapting to the stiff business world in which she moves, he transforms into his alter ego: Toni Erdmann. With weird teeth and a wild wig, he mixes up his daughter’s life. A must-see with a good dose of humor.
