The corona pandemic has united traders and artists in their suffering. Of the former, those who have been able to keep their heads above water with the losses are still struggling to maintain an offer. Of the latter, many have lost everything due to the restrictions and recession caused by Covid. To alleviate this, the City Initiative Stuttgart (CIS) has launched a new campaign that will see the light of day this Saturday: Stuttgart Street Art.
The state capital, stage for a day
The idea behind it is simple: eight groups of artists from different disciplines will perform at eight different locations in the city center throughout the day – from 12 noon to 8 pm – on Saturday this week. The aim is both to encourage visitors to linger in the city center and to help local traders.
The organizer, City Manager Sven Hahn, made this clear: “With the new concept, we will ensure a better quality of stay in the city centre on three Saturdays a year and thus offer retailers, restaurants and all other members a better frequency during normal opening hours.”
The other two days on which Stuttgart Street Art will take place are planned for July and October – although exact dates have not yet been published. Another aim is, of course, to support the participating artists – and to remunerate them accordingly. But who are they and where will they be performing?
The artists of Stuttgart Street Art
Children of all ages can look forward to two clowns. Clown Klikusch will be performing on Mailänder Platz and Clown Busch will be appearing in front of the Königsbau. The stilt walker Mystique will strut across the upper Königstraße. In keeping with this apparent circus troupe, the “Pedalritter” pedaleros will combine balance and wit on the Querspange.
In the spirit of street art, two BMXers will show off their skills on the lower Königstraße, while the Floor Legendz breakdance crew will dance on Schlossplatz. However, the main attraction will undoubtedly be illusionist Marco Miele, who became famous on the show “Das Supertalent“. He will enchant passers-by in the Dorotheen Quartier.
