Our selection of charming theaters in Stuttgart that more than make up for their small capacity with great passion and an exciting program. There’s something really exciting about small theaters. Maybe it’s the sense of immediacy you get from being so close to the stage. Maybe it’ s the freedom to take risks and try new things that they have compared to big theaters. Or maybe it’s the great passion with which both the staff and the performers approach their work – even though in many cases they are not professionals.
Be that as it may, there are some theaters that may not be among the most prestigious in our city, but for many reasons deserve our full attention. These are, in our humble opinion, the most charming theaters in Stuttgart.
ABV indoor theater
The ABV is proof that a small amateur theater with only 50 seats can become a real institution. Since 1921, in-house and guest performances of all genres and for all tastes (including children) have been staged here. And with productions and acting performances that are amateur in name only. The place to discover the most promising actors.

Dreigroschentheater
For almost fifty years, the Dreigroschentheater has been the smallest theater with a fixed repertoire in Stuttgart. Such an achievement can only be explained by great management and, of course, by the talent of the many theater enthusiasts who belong to its open ensemble. And no one is surprised:
The program of this self-proclaimed mini-cultural institution for the promotion of language, literature and drama includes well-known modern classics and crime theater of a special kind – all in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Theater am Faden
We could also call it Museum am Faden. Or play corner on the thread. Yes, theater is performed here. Marionette theater – classical plays, but also traditional plays from Russia, the Czech Republic and even music from India.
But the real treasure here is the collection of homemade wooden puppets, masks, paintings and everything else imaginable. And the best thing about it: you (or your children, if you bring them along) can touch, look at and even play with them before each play.

Studio Theater
Tucked away in an inner courtyard directly on Hohenheimer Straße is this small but great theater. Here you can periodically enjoy an ambitious program with excellent performances of the classics and exciting new plays by young authors. But the must-see are undoubtedly the hilarious improv shows, which have now achieved cult status. You can count us among this cult.
