Good news for art historians, professional and amateur painters and really anyone with an appreciation for beauty. Claude Monet’s house in Normandy, where he lived for over 40 years, can now be rented for overnight stays.
Monet and Impressionism
A little lesson for anyone who doesn’t yet know anything about the great French painter. Oscar-Claude Monet was born in northern France in 1840 and became interested in nature and drawing at an early age. He studied in Paris, where he developed a passion for depicting landscapes and seascapes, but was initially ignored.
It was only when he became acquainted with the concept of open-air painting that he was able to develop the characteristic style that would eventually make him so popular: The depiction of his own impressions and perceptions of the most fleeting light effects in nature. He was not only the founder of the Impressionist movement, which also included Renoir and Cezanne, but also became world-famous with paintings such as “Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge” and “Impression, Sunrise”.
Discover the Blue House
Monet lived in the same house in Giverny on the Seine for over 40 years. This period was his most productive, as the building and its gardens served as his constant inspiration.
Now the same “Blue House” can be rented for overnight stays via the online accommodation marketplace Airbnb. It has been renovated and offers all the amenities for a relaxing stay in a small village in Normandy. The building is furnished with both modern and antique furniture and consists of a kitchen, two living rooms, a bedroom with bathroom, a toilet (first floor) and two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor.
The house is surrounded by a 1500 m² garden. Here, Monet fans can find the famous flowering arches, the Japanese bridge and the water lilies. It is also just a few minutes from the city center. And also from the museum dedicated to the great artist.
The price per night is not exactly cheap. But more than affordable if you want to immerse yourself in the life of a true painting genius. For those who only want a room, it is possible to rent just the first floor – in which case the price will be adjusted. As this is a historic building, furnished with authentic classical furniture and art objects, guests are asked to take special care and attention.
We hope you enjoy your stay in Claude Monet’s house.
